What is Medium Term Accomodation (MTA)?

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) is a type of temporary housing support provided under the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme). It’s designed for participants who need a place to live while waiting for their long-term housing to become available.

MTA provides a safe and supported place to stay, typically for up to 90 days, while:

You’re waiting for your Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) to be ready.
You’re transitioning out of hospital, aged care, or another institutional setting.
You’re in-between housing and your permanent home isn’t ready yet.

What’s Covered?

MTA covers the cost of the accommodation only — it does not include:

Daily living expenses (like food)
Personal care or support services (unless funded separately in your plan)

How Long Can You Stay?

Usually up to 90 days
Can be shorter or slightly extended in some cases (with NDIA approval)

Example Use Case:

Alex is approved for Specialist Disability Accommodation, but construction is still underway. While waiting, he moves into a Medium Term Accommodation unit provided by an NDIS-registered provider, where he has a safe place to stay with the supports he needs.
